Introduction

From Options - Schedulers it is possible to add, view, edit and configure scheduled tasks that vSEC:CMS perform. Follow the instructions in this article for details on these settings.

Default Schedulers

By default 3 schedulers of type SYSTEM will be present in the application. These are:

  • Database backup
  • Smart card update check
  • Certificate expiration check

Schedulers will show the last 10 days or up to 200 entries depending on which of these is reached first. This is configurable if it is needed to show more details here via registry keys.

Database backup

The Database backup is configured from Options - Settings. From Schedulers you can see details on the most recent database backups.

Smart card update check

vSEC:CMS will, by default, perform an internal check on all managed credentials with regards to when an update check should be performed. A card update can be:

  • The Administration key of the managed credential needs to be changed;
  • The PIN of the managed credential needs to be changed;
  • The card template that the credential was issued with has been/needs to be changed.

This check will run automatically once a day at an unconfigured time.

If you wish to have a configured time then select the entry and click the Configure button to configure when the check should get triggered to run as a background task.

Note
For a production environment it is recommended to configured the checks to be performed daily only at a time when the system is not in peak usage.

Additionally, from version 6.6, you can trigger this update check to test the configurations/notifications you have in place for these updates. To do this you need to select the Smart card update check entry and hold down the Ctrl key and right click and select Run to trigger an automatic update check.

Alternatively, if you want to test with just one user, maybe for example you have a test user that you want to try, then select the Smart card update check entry and hold down the Ctrl key and right click and keep the Ctrl key pressed and select Run. You should get a search dialog from where you can find the user you want to test with. Then an update check will be run for that user only.

Certificate expiration check

vSEC:CMS will by default perform an internal check on all managed credential certificates with regards to when these certificate credentials are due to expire.
