Introduction

vSEC:CMS includes functionality whereby it is possible to install the vSEC:CMS Credential Provider (vSEC:CMS CP). The vSEC:CMS CP will integrate into the default Windows CP and allow for smart card operations to be performed directly from the Windows CP.

In order to use the vSEC:CMS CP you need to select this component when installing the vSEC:CMS MSI Client. Refer to the article Installing the vSEC:CMS MSI Client for details on installing the vSEC:CMS MSI Client.

The vSEC:CMS CP is supported on following operating systems:

  • Windows 7;
  • Windows 10
  • Windows 11.

Using the vSEC:CMS CP you can perform the following operations from the Windows default CP:

  • Smart card issuance (for physical or virtual smart cards);
  • Smart card unblock (for physical or virtual smart cards);
  • Smart card PIN change (for physical or virtual smart cards).
Important
The listed operations above support all of the operations that currently are supported in the vSEC:CMS USS.

Advanced Configuration

It is possible to configure the vSEC:CMS CP features that will be available. Below is an example of what can be available when all features are enabled.

If it is required to change the label (in the example the label Issue Credential), which is referred to as the Issuance feature, see the article Configure Windows GPO and look in the section Credential Provider - Credential Issuance Title for details on how to change this.

Additionally, you can remove either of the features Issuance or Logon or both. The Logon features are the features available under the user’s logon in the middle of the screen. See the article Configure Windows GPO and look in the section Disable Credential Provider for details on how to do this.
